When most people think of travertine, they picture pool decks and patios. But travertine tile — the thinner, ½-inch format — is one of the most elegant choices for indoor floors, bathrooms, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, and covered outdoor areas. Travertine Tile vs. Travertine Pavers — What's the Difference?

This is the question we answer most often, because the two products look similar but serve very different purposes:

• Travertine tile is approximately ½-inch (about 1.2 cm) thick. It's installed with thinset adhesive over a prepared, solid subfloor — concrete slab, backer board, or an existing stable surface — just like ceramic or porcelain tile. It's ideal for indoor floors, walls, showers, backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, and covered patios.
• Travertine pavers are much thicker — typically 3 cm (about 1¼ inch) — and are set on a gravel/sand base or mortar bed for outdoor pool decks, patios, driveways, and walkways. (For more on paver thickness, see our 3cm vs 5cm thickness guide.)

• Versailles (French) Pattern — a classic mixed-size set that creates an organic, old-world layout
• 16x24 inches
• 12x24 inches

By special order, we can also bring in 12x12, 16x16, 18x18, and 24x24 formats for larger projects and specific design requirements.

Finishes Available

• Tumbled — soft, rounded edges and a naturally aged, rustic surface. The most popular for an Old-World or Mediterranean look.
• Honed — smooth, matte, contemporary surface; clean and refined for modern interiors.
• Filled — the natural pits are filled and the surface smoothed, giving a more uniform finish that's easy to maintain indoors.
• Brushed — a textured matte surface with subtle dimension, popular for floors where a little grip and a natural feel are desired.

Colors

Our travertine tile is available across the same natural color family as our pavers — warm ivories and beiges, rich walnut and noce browns, cool silvers and greys, and multi-tone blends.
